Oh and Mel what do you think of politicians now that you've been in the system? I've had numerous friends say it turned them off to politics when actually witnessing it.

i was thinking the exact same thing. i like how when two people disagree on something political, someone comes out and calls them an idiot. or in my case a stupid cunt. i thought that this was what america was all about, differences but most people have respect for others views. oh well.

and to answer your second part. i've worked on all levels of politics. i did the municipal thing for a year before i headed up here to san marcos and was the public works liasion for a councilwoman. that was probably the most fun i have ever had. i worked for state rep patrick rose, state rep joe farias, and congressman ciro rodriguez on their campaigns... gotv, young adult outreach, that type of stuff and aftee the campaigns i found a way to wiggle myself into their offices. i worked for state rep joe farias in his capitol office and state rep patrick rose on that prop 15 that texas just voted on. and the ciro stuff last. i worked for some pretty amazing people. and i did some lobbying with young democrats of america and college democrats of america on behalf of tax free textbooks and interest rates on student loans, we also did a capitol invasion for planned parenthood at the beginning of the semester. i can for sure tell you one thing though, i love policy so much more than campaigning. i'm not really turned off by politics, i was a few months ago but convinced myself that the only way to change the system was to get in there and get good people elected and write good policy for them. my baby was some legislation in the state house and senate on trans fat free school lunches. it never got heard in committee though. i guess if i could do it all over again, i'd probably work for a senior state senator like leticia van de putte. the only reason i didn't go work for her was our relationship was too personal (she's my godmother) and i didn't want it to strain anything.

but i can see how it would turn people off. it's a dirty game of good ol' boys. you'd be surprised how much of that game is in the state leg and the aides... even interns get in on it. but my hero is sinfronia thompson and her staff was always amazing

No, I wouldn't be surprised. Especially after seeing how they vote, I pretty much assume that politics from top to bottom is a dirty game, usually corrupt.
