DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. (AP) - Megan Meier thought she had made a new friend in cyberspace when a cute teenage boy named Josh contacted her on MySpace and began exchanging messages with her. Megan, a 13-year-old who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder, corresponded with Josh for more than a month before he abruptly ended their friendship, telling her he had heard she was cruel.

The next day Megan committed suicide. Her family learned later that Josh never actually existed; he was created by members of a neighborhood family that included a former friend of Megan's.

This is pretty horrible. Stupid parents...I'd give them a lot of prison time for this.

no, i don't feel that they pushed her to suicide, she made that choice on her own.

suicide is a coward's way out, its giving up, and although sad, this girl made the choice to kill herself. yeah they're fucked up for messing with a kid, but we just assume that because they are older that they are more mature. and they will be punished to some degree, just as all bullies are punished, but from what i have available in the story, they didn't do anything that i feel would have driven a 13 year old to suicide.

maybe we should also punish her parents for drugging her up at an early age and telling her that its not her fault she's fucked up and that the only way she can change or get better is by pumping herself full of meds.

and while we're at it, every time someone leaves a suicide note blaming someone else for their suicide, we should probably prosecute them too.
