DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. (AP) - Megan Meier thought she had made a new friend in cyberspace when a cute teenage boy named Josh contacted her on MySpace and began exchanging messages with her. Megan, a 13-year-old who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder, corresponded with Josh for more than a month before he abruptly ended their friendship, telling her he had heard she was cruel.

The next day Megan committed suicide. Her family learned later that Josh never actually existed; he was created by members of a neighborhood family that included a former friend of Megan's.

This is pretty horrible. Stupid parents...I'd give them a lot of prison time for this.

yeah, its sad, but i don't know where it says she has dire mental disorders. it said she was on medication, but really not what she had. call me a dick, but in my opinion, most of the "depressed" people really aren't depressed. They just throw that word aroudn to anyone who struggles with life not being perfect. and ADD? learning disorder maybe, but I distinguish between learning disorders and mental problems, but i'm sure some of you will argue with me.

still sad, but i still think that people that kill themselves bear the responsibility of their actions.

but what about the adults that were bullying her? dont they bear the responsibility since they are adults and should know the effects of bullying on a depressed preteen? where the heck were they living that adult neighbors would create a fake myspace account to seduce and tease a kid? thats pretty gross
yes the adults should have definitely stepped in earlier. i would have pulled the plug on her myspace adventures the second i saw my daughter posting "vulgar" messages

well...maybe at least. At least it would give her more time to go to a shrink or something and get help other than meds, cause apparently the meds didn't help much.

It is sad, i do think that some sort of prison sentance should come to the adults who were antagonizing her, because that was the final straw that led her to kill herself, at the same time i wonder what her family life was like where she apparently wasnt getting the right kind of help for her problems.
