I was on facebook and saw an ad wanting me to sign a petition to stop a new bill that would give more funding towards nuclear energy (supported by moveon.org). I'm an environmentalist and support nuclear energy...I don't really understand moveon's position (another Chernobyl OMGGG?!)

Building new atomic reactors in an age of terror threats is not only scary, but the toxic waste from nuclear power threatens our health and our planet.

hmm, seems they are using the terrorist scare tactic as well...I'm a democrat, but on certain issues moveon is fucking crazy to me...

I understand the whole toxic waste, but it is fairly minimal and can be quarantined in isolated remote parts. Plus it can produce ample more energy than are coal based systems (which are also not very environmentally friendly)... Plus developed countries (like France) has shown that it can work.

Nuclear energy is relatively safe. The only problem is that when something does go wrong, which does not happen very often, the consequences are quite dire. Also, power plants create a lot more waste than just "gloves"

I don't generally have a problem with Nuclear energy as long as I don't have to live within a 10 mile radius of a power plant.

And how about we don't shoot anything at the sun...

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

And therin lies one of the biggest reasons nuclear power usage/development hasn't been expanded:
The "not in my backyard" complaint.
