Apparently, they visited a fertility clinic before he left for Iraq. They wanted children, but she had fertility issues. He was killed in Iraq, and she was artificially inseminated with the semen that they were going to have a kid together with. -Thats the summary of it all. I can't imagine the heartache involved with losing a spouse in Iraq. I'm really sentimental to issues like this so I shed a tear reading this story. I'm happy for her, but at the same time I wonder if it's healthy. What an honor, though, to be the son of a fallen soldier, and bringing happiness to a widow. It's just really sad that this kid will grow up without a father. I know a lot of kids have to deal with this, but to throw a kid into this situation when it's unnecessary is what I'm unsure of. Thoughts? |

the majority of kids in single parent homes turn out fine. its other effects like poverty, violence, abuse that single parent homes are at risk of that causes problems in children's development. like i was saying, if she had the dough to do that shes not one of those people

I know that millions of kids grow up like this...that doesnt mean that its good for their development. You are thinking inside of the box of how our society is. I'm saying think outside of the box, as in what is the developmental effects of missing a parent, if any. Once that question is answered, think about what this woman is doing....she is chosing to bring a child into this situation. what "situation" are you talking about? being single? this is exactly why they froze the sperm and why the company was giving a year free for active military. they planned for the worst and it happened. i don't think just any scumbag would have gone through with this. the majority of kids in single parent homes turn out fine. its other effects like poverty, violence, abuse that single parent homes are at risk of that causes problems in children's development. like i was saying, if she had the dough to do that shes not one of those people meh, she may have had the cash to do the fertilization, but that doesn't necessarily mean she'll have it to raise the kid. the article didn't mention whether the guy was an officer or enlisted, but i'm assuming officer.although, they've got health care for the rest of their lives and ss income for who knows how long. the wife and kid will also probably both get free college, too. |

They freezed it because she was infertal and they planned on having kids when he got back.
i don't think just any scumbag would have gone through with this. |
