This thread is frustrating. I agree with you, Alex. What Impala and Lance fail to comprehend is the most basic force in economics: supply and demand. If demand is high for these things because they're the most awesome TV's ever then the prices to the consumer are going to be much higher. If I have a product that costs me $10 to make, and I can sell it for $200, why the fuck would I sell it for $100, because I fell bad for making a higher profit margin?! The only unforeseen force in this would be competition, like if a Vizio or someone starts offering it for cheap and others want to compete, but even in that scenario you have companies like Sony who set their products at higher price points as a marketing strategy. Manufacturing cost =/= retail price. Everything is relative and, while OLED's will probably be comparatively cheaper later in their life cycle, they are not going to come out at a significantly lower price point than current technology, that would just be stupid and the companies might as well shit on the hundreds of thousands of products they've already produced.
I know you guys are going to struggle with this, but if you agree to not argue about simple business strategies then I will agree to not argue with you about shit that I know nothing about. And about CD-cassette-8 track, etc: Those are smaller media products, and when CD's first came out they were more expensive than tapes even though they cost a fraction of the price to produce. I remember back then when CD's cost $17-$20 each and you could get a tape for cheaper than that. I don't know the cost comparison of producing CD players vs cassette players, but I sure as hell know that when CD players came out at over $1000 each you didn't have to pay that much for a boom box that you could throw over your shoulder to rock your tapes. -------------------- LANCE IS PRO-CENSORSHIP!
