I encourage you all to vote people into office who will shut off even more of this country to development, so we're in an even tighter pinch for natural resources to feed our own economy. This way, we can help China become the dominate economy in the world, and for at least the next 10 or 15, we can feel like we "saved the environment" until China comes and takes us over then develops OUR natural resources for themselves and our entire way of life has been banned! YAY! -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

That is absolutley %100 the most misguided idea about all of this pervading popular belief today. Explain. I do not know of any good past situations to base the current one on. But have you played any strategy game that involved resource control? Age of Empires is a good one where 'gold' was the most important game winning resource. Every single expert level player knew to mine out the resources near your opponent before you mined out your own, so when they run out, you still have yours to win with. This was a long term strategy where two armies were too close in power for one to really defeat the other. Usually, losing your late game resource doomed you. Though I would say a video game is hardly anything to model real life on, it is a simple simulation that proves the point better than "I think this is how it is, so this must be how it is" which is your current argument. So please, instead of attacking the sillyness of my arguement, please provide something to substantiate your claim. By the way, I'm not voting democrat because I think pulling out of Iraq after we've invested billions of dollars into the country is an incredibly stupid thing to do. -------------------- ![]() |

So please, instead of attacking the sillyness of my arguement, please provide something to substantiate your claim. I'm on my way to the gym right now so I will offer more later, however, at the simpelest explanatory level I can give right now .... natural resource development is what's driving Chinas booming economy, pure and simple. It's the same type of thing that happened in the US at the early part of the century, in many ways. There are MANY elements within the US that have done everything possible to shut off development of our own natural resources in this country for the better part of the last half century. China does not have this element trying to undermine them, they're enjoying their prosperity. The other thing is, at the most basic level, in any given oil reserve, with current technology you're lucky if you can recover %10 of the hydrocarbons in that reservoir. This number has increased from a dismal amount only even 50 years ago. The point I'm trying to make is, "let them drill themselves out" is never going to happen. They're not going to run out. They perhaps might reach the end of their technological abillity to regain hydrocarbons from existing reservoirs, but as history has shown, that won't last forever. THe other thing is, you guys are basically saying "What if?" with this.. I don't think we have time to sit around and say "What if"? ... I think this is a situation where we better produce, lest we give socialism a bigger foothold in the world today which is what we've been trying to avoid the last 50 years. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!
