In an attempt (a permanent one, I hope) I've picked up running with my girlfriend. What's a good distance to start at for someone pretty out of shape? Should I change speeds or go at a constant (comfortable but not easy) pace? Should I occasionally take breaks? Any tips on this would be good...

everythings gradual. set a goal for a mile without stopping at whatever pace of jogging that is for you. listen to your body and if it starts to hurt or get tough push yourself for longer then if it just gets tougher slow your pace and if you cant push that on walk for a minute and try again at the slow pace and try to work yourself up.

i have a theory nearly everyone can run a mile without stopping within a week of practice
