PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.

His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live.

That's funny. Myth holds that cats do the exact opposite, going away from the sick that are about to die.

i thought the cat was the guardian of the underworld in egyptian mythology and when a person died the cat led them into the afterlife

I did too, but decided to google it before saying that and it turns out there is a myth in European cultures describing what I said. Because of that, it's considered bad luck for a cat to refuse to enter the house of a sickly person. There were a lot of other interesting cat myths, too.
