There's this thing called a sidewalk for a reason. It is absolutely pathetic to me to see people out exercising but doing it in the road, when there is a perfectly good sidewalk. The excuses made are f'n stupid:
"But the road is more even" -> So you want to make your RUN for EXERCISE easier!?!? "But there's cracks in the sidewalk" -> Oh heaven forbid you actually f'n watch where you're going, or have to step up and down (holy shit you might get more exercise) "But people park their cars in the driveway and it blocks the sidewalk" -> Zomg that extra five feet you have to run might KILL you! I'm sure I will think of more, but gah this shit is annoying. and have a nice day

It comes out about even. Again, the problem is funding. Yall have more to spend upfront than we do here. You have better grant proposal writers than we do here. If you pay for that 30 yr road with a loan with a high interest rate, then it becomes cheaper to pay for the 5 (closer to 5 than 3) yr road with no interest and using the money you have. And like you observed, we don't have the climate problems, so asphalt is a nice alternative here. Could be worse. We could just have dirt roads that are bladed every so often
