Hummer greener than Prius Options

I'm surprised no one discussed this yet... I haven't found any decent links but they discussed it on the world news the other night on some "Dust to Dust" report done. Basically, from manufacture to garbage heap, the hummer will use way less energy than a prius, as well as the prius production itself having adverse affects on the environment. Apparently the big pollutant for the prius, is something like the nickel mining for its lots of batteries being one of the dirtiest, most polluting resources on the planet today.

Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius. As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles.

The plant is the source of all the nickel found in a Prius’ battery and Toyota purchases 1,000 tons annually. Dubbed the Superstack, the plague-factory has spread sulfur dioxide across northern Ontario, becoming every environmentalist’s nightmare.

Sigh... and everyone who has ever eaten beef in their life ingests fat. But you wouldn't argue that someone who eats a McDonalds double quarter pounder every meal of every day is as healthy as someone who actually watches their diet would you?

You're creating a false dilemma in saying that you either have to pollute the environment or not pollute it without acknowledging that there's such thing as different degrees of pollution.

this is a stupid analogy. fat is required for a healthy diet. do you think the planet's 'health' needs pollution? or craves pollution?

yeah there's different degrees of pollution. just like there's different degrees of a pile of shit. you know what? they both still smell like shit. and you can't make it better just by shitting less. it's absurd to have someone who shits 2 logs walking over to tell the person who shits 2.5 logs that they need to shit less to help reduce the shit smell.

tell me which you think will happen first
1. we develop the technology to turn trash into energy instead of sending it to landfills (already being developed)
2. we take the entire human race back to square one and live in the forest with stone tools
