fairly rare thing, not quite as impressive from AL teams, but still pretty sweet nonetheless

sure they will. pitchers get pulled all the time in the NL even though they're doing great. you have to score runs to win games. I guarantee you every day of the week, in a NL game, you are batting, late inning (5thish), game is 0-0, bases loaded 1 out, pitcher gets pulled every time, no matter how well he's doing. with the only exception being pitchers that can really hit well (there are a few batting .250 w/a handful of RBIs/homers.

and btw I'm not necessarily agreeing with that strategy, just saying that's what happens.
