so, last night i had just finished watching game three of the stanley cup finals, and i noticed that the guy who shares a wall with me was out on the walkway/balcony area drinking with one of his friends. they're being kinda loud, but it's no big deal because it's the weekend and my tv was also pretty damn loud.

after a little while they start to get louder, and i guess they were talking to some lady in the parking lot (from the 3rd floor), which turns into an argument.

i'm pretty happy at this point because they're screaming, the neighbor is calling her a cunt and a bitch and telling her to leave, and i can actually hear her more clearly than him because i guess that "obese mexican female" accent carries pretty far. next thing i know, the neighbor guy is like, "are you fucking kidding me?!" and i hear a gunshot. silence for a few seconds, and then she starts screaming at him again. he laughs at her and is like "you dumb bitch, i can't believe you did that, your fingerprints are all over the gun, you're going to jail".

i'm already on the phone calling 911, and i guess a few other people called, too, because they showed up in like 2 minutes. i hear them yelling at her to drop the gun, she's like "fuck you, i'm the one that called". they both end up in handcuffs, 7 cruisers are in the parking lot, and they sort it out for about 2 hours.

it looks like she ended up going to jail and he was released. he told the cops that he's not going to press the domestic charges because he doesn't want her to have a heart attack. awesome. can't wait to get the hell out of this complex.

Can they even do a criminal background check prior to renting? I know they can and do use credit report checks, but don't think I've ever had my criminal history checked.

I do not think they can because of fair housing rules.

The one thing I ask when renting apartments (since you can't ask what the demographics are) is, "Are you section 8 housing?", which basically asks if they are governmentally subsidized.
