So it looks like the Cotton Kings will not be playing in Lubbock anymore. They are looking at San Angelo and a couple other cities. The city refuses to negotiate with them.

Why does the city want to run off the only minor league franchise that has been in Lubbock consistently? Wouldn't they want to keep the team in town?

Every time I hear something about Lubbock its always negative, things like this don't help it all.

Plus if the Cotton Kings leave then we lose the only ice facility in Lubbock. Unless the club team raises enough money to pay for ice upkeep they will probably screwed, it sucks that they are affected by the council's stupidity.

I'm pretty sure the Coliseum is paid off, so they don't have to pay a mortgage or anything. They charge the teams that use the facility for staffing for the events and the teams themselves pay the players salary.

Obviously there are some costs that the city faces but theres no way it can be 3.3mil of costs.

The bigger picture here though is that the city by not even negotiating with the Cotton Kings is showing any other potential teams that its hard to work with. So this hurts our chance of getting a minor league baseball team or any other professional team.

Also the Auditorium (connected to the Coliseum) is barely meeting code and the Coliseum is getting pretty bad. If the council wants to add new facilities downtown they are gonna need a team to play there. Theres no use running off the consistent team in your city.
