Just my opinion but Personally, I'm really sad you shot that pig. How nice it would have been for it to either live free or be used as a source of scientific discovery. But hey, I'm from California where we tend to think that way. My son is 10 and became a vegetarian on his own at age 5 (his father and I are carnivores). Our son still takes the time to remove even ants from our house so no one will squish them. Interesting how different two American boys can be!

If this kid spins into a deep, dark depression because of the fact that he cannot kill a hog bigger than the hog he killed when he was 10 years old and it invalidates his life to the point that he can't stop thinking about it, then it's probably better if he just turns the gun on himself right now so that he doesn't have to live such a pathetic life.

niether you nor zach really gets the point. it's not about throwing him into depression, it's the fact of realizing that he's already had the best.

if you lost your virginity to the playboy supermodel centerfold of the year, and then had to start fucking around with flat chested, average girls for the rest of your life... sure, you'd still enjoy yourself, but you'd be like "man, it's just not as good as that first time" if hog hunting is something he really enjoys, this will prolly interfere with that because every time he steps into that field again, he knows that he may bag something, but it will never be as good as it once was.


zach, if suddenly tommorow, you became the best, and ultimate MMA fighter. no one could even touch you, much less defeat you. EVER. wouldn't that kinda kill the competitive spirit you enjoy from it? the challange of defeating a worthy opponent, the gamble you take on each punch thrown or blocked? i seriously doubt you're the kind of guy that would take pleasure from jumping into the ring, and declaring " i win!" and then just step out again immediately.



mediocracy is it's own form of hell dude. and if you or zach can't understand that, then you've either never strove to perfection in something, or are lucky enough to not have achieved it.

I guess I just don't understand hunting well enough. I don't know why killing the record size boar ruins hunting for him and makes him feel mediocre for the rest of his life. Is it because boars are one of the few game that people hunt that is aggressive and will fight back? If not, can't he go after the world's biggest dove, deer, whatever-the-fuck-else people hunt?

I guess it never occurred to me that people were serious enough about hunting wild boar that bagging the largest one might ruin the sport for them forever.

I do agree on your point of the caveman with the largest kill being the most impressive and best hunter, but that's thousands of years ago, now the kid could have gone to the Piggly Wiggly and bought 1,000 pounds of pork to eat, he's not out there killing to supply his family for fear of them starving.
