But do you honestly mean to tell me the war has been perfectly run up until now?  And are you honestly meaning to tell me there's absolutely nothing that can be done to improve the occupation?

Of course the war is not being perfectly run. I dont think anything is being run perfectly in this world. My point is is that why cant they worry about the problem at hand right now: stabilizing Iraq so we can bring our troops home. Dont you think that is a little bit more important right now than analyzing past mistakes. No, analyzing what has happened thus far will not bring our troops home any faster because I believe their real agenda is what I quoted in bold by Mr. Baker.

1)  They're in a war zone.  They're not exactly going to be happy to be there.
2)  You want to improve morale by telling everyone the war is going perfectly when it's not?  If there are issues going on, be honest about them.

My point is that Congress is going to make a bunch of assenine comments like "well we shouldnt have gone over there in the first place blah blah blah" in which case not only will the media be bashing what the soldiers are doing but also their government will be. Thats what I see this boiling down to: us initially going to war. I could very well be wrong, but it seems that congress hasnt done much so far to help with things in Iraq. What would be different now? Most likely not a god damn thing.

Which is exactly why Congress is creating an independent group to study the war and make reccommendations for improving it.  Yes, there's going to be politics involved.  But unfortunately, we live in a country goverened by politicians.  That's the nature of the beast.  It's like Winston Chuchill said "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

They should know that their political and personal agendas are not as important right now as the lives of both Americans and Iraqis (SP?). Im just saying that I wish they could pull their heads out of their politically motivated asses long enough to see the reality. The reality is this: unless a person has been there and fought, they dont know whats trully going on. How can they comment on things they havent really lived. I mean, are they even going to interview people that have been over there?

He wants a "second opinion" about the war from a well-known and respected group of Americans -- all of whom long involved in public service.

That sure doesnt say that they are going to talk to people that have served in Iraq, much less the military for that matter.

Hamilton said the group will travel to Iraq and may produce interim reports before issuing a final report but he declined to give a timeframe

They are going to travel there and get great treatment and still not know what its trully like over there. I just see it as a waste of time and money. Its whatever though. There is obviously nothing I can do about it because its already been set into motion. I really do hope that they come up with some information that really will be relavent and useful, but I seriously doubt it. I honestly do hope that I am proved wrong.
