Three years later, Congress decides to actually do their jobs instead of being Bush's rubber stamp....

I know how difficult it can be to accept that when a person's opinion disagrees with yours that doesn't automatically invalidate it, but it's good thing to do.

there is no answer though. seriously, this all politics. i can say that i firmly believe that this "study of the war" is motivated with a purely political agenda. how else should a war be run? its a war!!!!! bad shit happens. we arent nuking towns and shit.

But do you honestly mean to tell me the war has been perfectly run up until now? And are you honestly meaning to tell me there's absolutely nothing that can be done to improve the occupation?

look, i KNOW for a fact that a lot of the soldiers over there already have low morale because of what the media has been saying. im not saying I know more here than anyone else, but I was in a relationship with someone while he was in Iraq and when he just came back. He was in the most active unit in the army over there. A lot of them feel as if they are there for no reason. I dont see how this helps at all.

1) They're in a war zone. They're not exactly going to be happy to be there.
2) You want to improve morale by telling everyone the war is going perfectly when it's not? If there are issues going on, be honest about them.

I would see the need for an assessment had Congress proven over the years that they could come up with positive and intelligent recommendations for the future. Its been my opinion that they havent. I agree with Mr. Lament on this one: it would be just like recounting the fucking ballots. Just let it go, finish the job to create a stable environment, and bring our troops home. Then, if they want to sit around with tea and biscuits and bitch about the past, so be it.

Which is exactly why Congress is creating an independent group to study the war and make reccommendations for improving it. Yes, there's going to be politics involved. But unfortunately, we live in a country goverened by politicians. That's the nature of the beast. It's like Winston Chuchill said "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
