I got a job offer there, is that town really that bad?

ok abilene is half the population of lubbock, lake abilene sucks, it's surprisingly polluted and only the hobos are brave enough to swim in it. Abilene does have a low cost of living and city-wide alcohol sales. Currently, you can still smoke in bars, but they are trying to pass a no smoking city ordinance. Abilene has been attracting more businesses in recent years. There is very little traffic and the town all but dies on sundays and friday nights. (in the fall) The downside is that the nightlife consist of about 4 crappy clubs, a couple of sports bars, ihop and whataburger. Most businesses are closed by 9 or 10 pm. Abilene has been in a drought state for a few years, also. It's better now, than it was a few years ago, but there were definitely many homes that were vacated in response to the drought and the elm creek flood. It is sort of scenic, but largely flat. the only hills are near ACU. If you want to be in a really up-and-coming area, you should look at getting a place near ACU. The real estate prices are a bit higher, but lots of retailers are flocking to that area and it is growing in popularity. Out of curiosity, what company might be hiring you?

Just for your information, the city of Abilene passed that no smoking ordinance. You can no longer smoke in any public building in Abilene and must remain 20 ft. away from all public entrances. (excluding the leaf, which is a cigar shop). Bars in Abilene close at 12 on the weekdays and at 1 am on Saturday. Most of the clubs in Abilene suck ass, but you can buy alcohol at convenient stores and liquor stores throughout town. Abilene is like Lubbock in some ways, only smaller and not as dusty. The "holy hill" aka ACU area is a nice area to live in but there is no booze sold near the university because of the church of Christ. Abilene is alright. Cheap standard of living, but salaries are not as high in Abilene either.
