My Dad went to college at USF. One of his friends there worked in a bank in San Francisco. His gay boss gave him shit because he was the only heterosexual teller there. He got bad reviews because of him. His boss apologized to him right before he died of AIDS, but he had to eventually move out of the Bay Area to not get harassed.
yes, gays and minorities are abused in society. In the lions den though, its often reverse that. On the border towns and in SF, the roles are reversed. The problem is that these are the people that are usually most accepting of the differences are the ones abused.
