Bush vs. Congress Options

Bush's decisions, more than two months in the making, are already drawing criticism from new Democratic leaders in Congress who say it is time to begin ending the war, not to send in more US forces.

I think this will turn out to be interesting. I wouldn't really have any problem with a "surge" if it would result in at least a half-assed plan to leave Iraq.

It does not matter if they were said by Mr. Moore or not, it is the truth. You can't seriously hold on to any notion that this war makes sense. Come on admit it. I understand if you support the war now that we are engaged in it, but for all that is good and true in this world you have to admit that there were not really any good reasons to invade Iraq. Hell, at least be honest about why you invaded Iraq. Where are the WMD'S? Where are the connections to Osama Bin Laden? Where is this safer, democratic, stable nation that bush promised to us over 3 YEARS ago? I thought Bush was telling the truth when he said that the mission in Iraq was "accomplished". Let me be truthful with all of you. In 2003, I was a different person then I am today. I was a 'republican'. I supported the president and the war in Iraq like many Americans did after September 11th. Something changed, as i realized that this war was complete bullshit. I am not telling you to accept everything I say to be absolute gold. I have my own opinions just like anyone else. Me calling you a "nazi bitch" has nothing to do with you being a nazi in terms of hating Jews (I did not call you Hitler: Hitler is a nazi, but not all nazis are Hitler), instead it has to with the whole semi fascist attitude of this administration which includes: The manipulation of the media, spin jargon, propaganda, uber patriotism, surveillance of the civilian population w/o a warrant... This country is rapidly following a dangerous path which threatens to damage the democracy, prosperity, and lives that we all enjoy. since this president has gone into office he has: eroded civil liberties, plunged the nation into trillions of dollars of debt, entangled our country into a dangerous war, destabilized the international community, etc.

I dont have a semi fascist attitude. First off, I dont think we should be in Iraq. I have good friends and family over there fighting and they dont even think we should be there; HOWEVER I also realize that not a god damn thing can be done to change the fact that we invaded Iraq. The only thing we can do is hope that the people that we elect in the future have learned from this mistake. BITCHING about it will not solve it. Ok so people were justified in year one of the war in expressing their complaints. Year two: getting kind of old but whatever. Year three: SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY. WE KNOW. NO WMD'S. BLAH BLAH BLAH. LETS MOVE ON ALREADY.

Secondly, enough about Bush already. That man cannot single-handedly bring down a country. Yes, the President has extensive veto powers, but his position is also very cerimonial. Almost everything that he does has to be backed up by either the courts or by Congress, HENCE the balance of powers.

Finally, I do think that if the government has reasonable concerns about the motives and activities of a civillian that they they should monitor that person. Excuse me that I would rather be alive and enjoying life then dead because some radical Muslim decides to blow up a building or bring a gun on a plane. So what if the government monitors me? Dont give the government a reason to monitor you and they wont. Dont get involved in retarded shit that you shouldnt be involved with and you will be fine. Yes, I think that elected officials, the FBI, the CIA, policemen, etc abuse their powers at times...people are manipulative and are out to fulfill their own agendas; but as long as you are a citizen of this nation then you are subject to a fair and speedy trial. Its in the Bill of Rights. I do not think my rights are being violated if Im subjected to a little monitoring. My rights are everything that falls into "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
