iTunes Options

So, apparently we got us a set of ipod nanos for christmas. Can't say I particularly wanted mine, but since I have it, I've got a few questions about using it.

First of all, apparently you have to install itunes to even move music onto the damn device in the first place. It really isn't that big of a deal, but every mp3 player I've had previously has just allowed dragging and dropping, no questions asked. It's not that it's a big convenience, but I've heard that iTunes sucks systems resources like a 2-dollar whore sucks dicks, not to mention that it wraps all the tunes you put into it with its own DRM, which just ain't cool. There's also a few other reasons, but I can't remember what they are, currently. At any rate, which of this stuff is true and are there apps/progs/utlis/hacks that can be used to get around all this? Whatcha got?

If we are talking organization, I use directories as well.

Music
-- Artist
---- Album
------ Song

I try and stay away from the random directories because after I get some more music from a specific artist I need to hunt down their music in the random folder.

But that's just personal preference.
