Finally decided to upgrade my home-built computer. I just installes a new 160 gig hard drive to add to the 250 I already have. I want to add two more sticks of 256 ram to make a gig (i know, I should have done this a long time ago). I have a couple of questions.
1) Power supply: Mine is only 380 watts. Should I upgrade that too? Can I wait to upgrade until I get the new ram or should I now since I just added the new hard drive? I dont know shit about power. 2) Ram has to be added in equal increments, right? I currently have 2 sticks of pc3200 ddr sdram 256 mb so im at 512 total. If i wanted to add two sticks of 512 to give me a 1.5 gigs could I do that instead of adding 2 more 256 to equal a total gig? Are there motherboard/processor limits that could play a role in how much ram im allowed to add? pc3200 ddr only comes in 184 pin, right? If my questions dont make much sense, sorry. I dont know shit about power or ram. Any info you could give me would be great. THANKS |

geez what the hell do you use 410 GB for? i had 1.5TB of storage before my new maxtor failed on me. sad thing is, all of it's ATA, not SATA. i'm so fucking screwed when i decide to upgrade. (although i need to already) biggest problem i have is that when i upgrade, it's going to cost a fortune. Even for just a new video card, i'd need a machine with PCIE, which means i'd have to upgrade my motherboard, and my processor, then i'd have to upgrade my ram to DDR2, and while i'm at it I might as well upgrade to sata (i'll just get an ATA PCIE board until I have the need for new drives, and just get an 80gb 10kRPM sata drive for the system drive), and hell, my case is falling apart, might as well get a new one of those too. Only thing I can really keep, aside from periphrials, is my sound card, and even that's antiquated (sound blaster live 5.1, only 16bit.) seriously, it's gonna cost me a fucking fortune. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
