Ok, isn't it determined whether you're jewish or not based on your mother?

I just found out that my mother's mother's mother was jewish. Does that technically make me a jew too?

I actually just found myself in the exact same situation. My mother's mother's maiden name was Saenz, which apparently was a name that was taken by Jews as they were hiding in Spain during the inquisition. My family was ulitimaltey caught and forced to become Catholic, but then I guess they got their revenge when Spain went to conquer Mexico creating a lineage of MexiJews.

I told this to my boss, who is the product of a Levy and a Cohen, and was born in Israel and therefore to me is a superjew. She was beyond excited when I told her about my family's discovery and according to her, any Rabbi would consider me Jewish.

For example, she was just married about 2 months ago, to a Catholic man. This guy had to go through a very complicated conversion process that took him nearly 2 years. I on the otherhand could just walk in and say, "Hi I'm Jewish." And off we'd go.

Then she suggested that I create a profile on JDate. And that she can't wait to help plan my wedding.
