I hope that Bill Maher doesn't represent the left or Democrats outside of his party affiliation.

Who cares if the guy is gay? He can be anti gay marriage but gay. I have a friend that is gay and is completely against gay marriage (that's a different subject).

My main thing though is "who cares". Who cares who's gay and who's not. Who cares who's a partier and who's not. We all have our problems and unless they are criminal then I do not see why someone needs to be shamed because of them.

Also, unless Maher had some factual evidence that this guy is gay isn't what he did slander?

I love how the article makes it sound like all gays are child molesters.... geez what is this country coming to.

Never said that. I said why does it matter who's gay. And again, there is no "proof" that he is gay.

Has he said somewhere that he wants nothing to do with gay people? All I know is that he opposes gay marriage. If we went on a "witch"hunt in D.C. I'm sure we'd find a lot of skeletons...

Secondly, I didn't neccessarily say that Mehlman himself didn't want anything to do with gays, but the party he leads sure doesn't. Why is it that so many gay Congressmen are forced to keep their sexuality a secret?

In other words, it matters if Mehlman is gay because if he is a homo, he's at worst a hypocrit and at best a demagogue who hasn't used his position to better his own kind so he can hold on to power.

I am not here to argue gay marriage, 'cause quite frankly could care less. Do what you want to do, if you want to call it marriage go for it.

And he wouldn't be the first homo to feel that way. In fact, I could probably find you a gay person who believes that homosexuality should still be a crime. While I don't neccessarily feel that it should be at the top of every gay person's list of priorities, I would say that for a gay person to totally oppose gay marriage/civil unions or even to stand by and do nothing about it as Mehlman has done is playing a demagogue.

I don't think it's just a loud minority. Otherwise, why would we have groups such as the Log Cabin Republicans who say things like:

"The mere existence of our organization recognizes the fact that the Republican Party still has a long way to go on issues affecting gay and lesbian civil rights. Too many people in the party remain hostile to gay and lesbian civil rights."
