QUOTE
Gates has sharply criticized the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq war and has made clear that he would seek advice from moderate Republicans who have been largely frozen out of the White House, administration officials and Gates's close associates say.

The administration officials said that Bush was aware of Gates's critique of current policy and understood that Gates planned to clear the "E Ring" of the Pentagon, where many of Donald Rumsfeld's senior political appointees have plotted Iraq strategy.

I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by this. Let's see how things change in Iraq.

It sounds like they want to send more troops over. IMHO you either have to send more in and overwhelm the opposition, or pull them all out and leave.

I am fairly sure we'll see a troop increase. How they'll be used is another question. We'll probably see more money going to armoring and supplying the effort as well.

My question now is, whenever the House and Senate first approve a budget increase for Iraq, does that mean that the people with the counters on their websites have to take them off (since they were anti-Republican/Bush)?
