Um, so i would be uneducated to think that the system can be perfected and thus much more efficient than paper?
Or would it just be uneductated to think RIGHT NOW they aren't as safe as paper ballots? (i agree with the paper being more secure right now... save those damn hanging chads and confusingly voting for buchanen) |

Nothing is perfect, especially in the software world. Compare this to to copy protection... people will always find a way to break it. New vulnerabilities are discovered every day in all sorts of software products. Sign up for bugtrak, securityfocus, or CERT. Anyone who thinks software can be perfected is a complete idiot. Anyone with any basic software engineering experience or who has ever taken a softare engineering class knows this. They tell you this on the first day in software engineering 101. |

Maybe "perfected" was the wrong word.... but im pretty sure i didn't mean perfecting SOFTWARE. I more meant making the ability to cheat the system much harder than a percievable risk to it actually happening. Maybe more checks and balances, lower tech, securtiy measures at the booths, double checks, codes for each citizen while using so it is harder to duplicate a mass number of votes... Im not talking perfecting anything (because paper ballots can't be perfected) but more just making it hard enough on multiple levels so that paper is just as likely to be abused. Some how i doubt paper is our only choice ever... but then again i AM uneducated on future abilities of electronic voting... |
