Dateline, sexual predator bullshit Options

I'm watching Dateline NBC right now... they're doing a segment on sexual predators... something is really bugging me here. Here's the situation:

Cops + Dateline set up inside a nice house. The cops get online and start chatting with guys, posing as 13 year old girls wanting to have sex. They invite the guy over, have an 18 year old girl posing as the 13 year old, and this girl flirts with them when they get there until Dateline pops in, embarasses the guy, then the cops arrest the guy (who is 28). WTF!?! Now I'm not condoning 28 year olds having sex with 13 year olds, but this is bullshit... the guy never did anything illegal. It's still on NBC right now.

right, and i completely agree, but if you could be arrested for being a sick fuck, half the people on this board would be behind bars right now. and I'm not sympathizing with them, I'm wondering how the hell the cops can get away with this kind of shit, and why they're holed up in a damn house impersonating 13 yr old girls.

the fact is, these guys did not break any law, and there's no evidence to say they would have if the police officer had never impersonated an overly-horny girl to them. people will say things online that they wouldn't say in person. This board is a perfect example. I've met several of you for real (mostly at parties) and had a good time, yet on here we can get into fierce arguments. Who's to say (and arrest) someone would have done something given certain circumstances (circumstances which are completely being made up by the cops)? Sure these guys are sick for thinking they'd have sex with a 13 year old, but unless a real 13 year old girl gets online, sex talks with the guy, then gives him her address and begs him to come over, this never happens, and crime is never committed. Even if the cops get a real 13 year old girl on and tell her what to type, it's still not a real situation.

If these practices are considered ok, what's to stop them from sending you some fake tax form and nailing you for tax fraud? Or buying you a few extra drinks at the bar and then following you out and giving you a PI ticket?

another thing i noticed, was the vast majority of these guys were of arab descent, where they have extremely young marraiges. i'm not saying it's an excuse, i'm just saying it was interesting to note.

Because we all know that men on chat rooms looking to talk about sex to minors WOULD NEVER intend to go to a 13 year olds house to have sex with them UNLESS it was a cop talking to them...

Funny how these men trying to have sex with a 13 year old is ok because 'they didn't know it was a sting operation". Thats like saying selling drugs to a cop, or hiring an undercover cop to murder your husband/wife isn't illegal because you were actually making a deal that couldn't in the end actually be completed because it was a cop .... WOW.

Im sure the parents, who have had thier children taken advantage of over chat rooms like this, are really concerned for these would be rapists.
