It's a bad thing because the detainees haven't been proven to have done anything! Heck, many of them haven't even been charged with a crime. This bill, if I'm understanding it correctly, legitimizes their ability to detain people indefinitely. Keep them in prison the whole time if they're a flight risk, but at least charge them and get them through the courts in a timely fashion!

The legislation broadens the definition of enemy combatants beyond the traditional definition used in wartime, to include noncitizens living legally in this country as well as those in foreign countries, and also anyone determined to be an enemy combatant under criteria defined by the president or secretary of defense.

In a perfect world that means catching evil doers easiery.


In reality, it means more innocent people getting fucked over.


But don't worry kids, it won't be any white people, just minorities. And when a minority is the victim, everybody will say "well, the govt was just tryin to be careful !"


I'm yet to see one reason in the "war on terror" to trust the Bush Administration, so why should I feel good about this, giving them more subjective power ?
