That's not even what your gay ass conspiracy site article says... it says:

they won't play back because they were never supposed to be recorded in the first place.  it's a media protection scheme called 5C that gets broadcast by the TV networks to not allow their content to be recorded.  (even VCRs follow this protection scheme)
