and when you buy rights to a media file, you're not buying it from microsoft you're buying it from itunes or gaytunes or whatever people use nowadays. how is it microsoft's responsibility to keep up with all that shit? it should be stored with whatever store you bought the music from.

"Recorded TV shows that are protected with media usage rights, such as some TV content recorded on premium channels, will not play back after 3 days when Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 for Windows XP is installed on Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. No known workaround to resolve this issue exists at this time."

they won't play back because they were never supposed to be recorded in the first place. it's a media protection scheme called 5C that gets broadcast by the TV networks to not allow their content to be recorded. (even VCRs follow this protection scheme)
