prostetants may not believe in purgatory, but there's a period after death when they need to be "glorified" to reach heaven. the only difference between the two is that
-purgatory takes the prayer of others to clear you of sins
and
-protestants don't sin, so there's no need

I don't understand... Everyone sins. The idea of purgatory is not believed in by protestants (or Baptists, etc.) because they believe in salvation by grace. We believe that no matter how many good works you do or how much you pray it will not get you into Heaven. We simply believe that if you believe Christ died for your sins then you are saved and granted the gift of eternal life. Basically, no one can clear you of your sins besides Jesus.

Also, some Catholics believe that your good will be weighed against your bad before you are let into Heaven, most Christians do not believe this (though some do).
