He was killed by a roadside bomb June 26. The words that he has to say about the Iraqi people, the men he recruited, and his family are gut wrenching. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

QUOTE (impala454 @ Jul 10 2006, 08:20 AM) I agree with hartmann that soldiers are selfless and sacrificing a lot. I believe there's a lot of them in it for other reasons but if never before they know how dangerous it can be. I have a family member over there and am very proud of him. I also agree with prefix bc I'm sick of seeing "_____ died today in Iraq" stories. The media doesn't air/print these stories because they care about the soldiers they do it because they're trying to tug the heartstrings and get people to take their side. I guarantee during Vietnam where tens of thousands died there wasnt a damn 5 min feature on the news about each dead soldier how he was the football team captain in high school. no instead the country hated and disrespected the vets. (based mainly on politics...over which the vets, many drafted, did not control). and as a whole america felt terrible about it starting in the late 70's...guilt is a heavy burden and thus are trying to ensure that will never happen again in this "our vietnam". they will bash the president, cabinet, decision makers all day long (and should if they disagree with the decisions). but the vets are hands off. I think this is a good thing. overkill? perhaps...but better than the previous slant. |
