Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is the king of cyberspace, according to a poll.

Researchers have discovered that he features in more emails than any other male star, including the likes of Brad Pitt and Robbie Williams.

More Internet searches are made for Hasselhoff, 53, than any other cult star, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael J Fox and the A-Team's Mr T. Tom Cruise ranks number five in the poll.

A third of those surveyed had emailed gossip about The Hoff to friends, family and colleagues.

Britney Spears crops up in more emails than any other female entertainment star, followed by Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham in joint second place.

Angelina Jolie makes it to number three, with Kate Moss reaching fourth place and Voice of an Angel Charlotte Church bringing up the rear at five.

Hasselhoff, who already has the Guinness World Record title for The Most Watched TV Star in the World, said: "I'm delighted to be such a hit on the web and to be crowned king of the Internet."

Peter Dubens, chairman of Pipex, which commissioned the survey of 16 to 24-year-olds, said: "The results of our survey show David Hasselhoff has become a cultural icon".
