Daily Water Intake, et al. Options

See, I find it strange that it's difficult to find any decisive, agreed-upon standard for facts about daily water intake. Some of said 15 8oz glasses a day, others 8 8oz glasses, some others just say drink enough to replace the water you lost (your body acting as the signaler).

Also, what the hell counts towards water intake? Water obviously, but what about teas, like black teas, green teas, herbal teas, et cetera. What about coffee and sodas? Hell, what about foods? They've got a bit of water in them =o

I believe the standard is 10 8 oz glasses.  But the point is that there's really no such thing as drinking too much water.

Oh, and that only counts water.  If you drink anything with caffeine in it, you have to drink that much more water.

Ah, so caffeine-free tea. What about that? I reckon the caffeine's bad cause it dries you out and serves as a diuretic. So what about tea that's got none (most herbals)? =o Or very little, compared to coffee (green tea).

take your weight, divide it in half, then drink that many ounces of water a day.

I've heard that method a lot.

Example: I'm 165lbs. Therefore, I need to drink about 82.5 ouces of water a day.

Sounds like a decent method. Anybody else heard of this; doctor-recommended?
