It's a neat service but raises some questions about phone service and GPS, especially with tracking when the phone is not in use.

So iphone google maps pulled from city data?

For cities that provided arterial data, yes.

They had a beta program a while back and you may have been included in that.

Before that, Google Maps on the iPhone only included freeways.
