Jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, not hot enough to melt steel at 2750°F yet molten steel and melted steel girders were found at Ground Zero. How did the "terrorists" defy physics?

How did the "terrorists" defy physics? ![]() This is an iron-carbon (basically steel) phase diagram. For temperatures lower than 727 C (or 1340 F) it is in an alpha-Fe3C phase (a stable BCC crystal structure), above that it transforms into austenitic FCC form which has a much weaker structure than it's alpha-Fe3C phase.
