QUOTE BISHKEK (Reuters) - Kyrgyzstan's government asked parliament on Wednesday to approve the closure of a U.S. military air base which supplies U.S.-led troops fighting in Afghanistan. ... Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev said the base would be shut after he secured Russian financial aid at talks in Moscow on Tuesday. ... Moscow denied any connection between the $2 billion package to combat an economic crisis -- the equivalent of about half of Kyrgyzstan's gross domestic product -- and Bishkek's decision. So Russia essentially destroys a major strategic US airbase for $2 billion without ever firing a shot. I wonder if Obama will do something about this (other than bending over and grabbing his ankles). This President Bakiyev is a real dumbass... he probably could have gotten $4 billion out of Obama. |

Ahh. The article mentions there's a Russian base "a few dozen kilometers" away... so it seems to me it's more the Russians not wanting us to have a base so close.
