Parenting, so here it goes Options

Ok..... I don't normally make a serious post on here, and a lot of times i just type whatever comes into my alcohol deprived mind, but Jesus Christ.....why can't parents do their fucking job. I am currently working as a band director in south Texas, in a 4A school about an hour west of Corpus. As the new guy there, I work the 4th band out of 4 in the middle school....basically, the kids who can't pass classes (most of them), or just do not have a natural inclination towards music (there is nothing wrong with that...just how some people are).
Now the issue i have with the whole not passing classes thing, is that apparently it is "cool" to be a jackass and fail at life (just like their worthless parents). Here is an example of the fail that some of these kids have achieved (should seriously be a goddamn achievement on xbox live). Things like failing EVERY CLASS....INCLUDING BAND....HOW THE FUCK!...that's like failing PE...you show up, you bring your stuff, at least attempt to do SOMETHING, and you will pass.....(and the grading system we are forced to use is so fucking broken a Neanderthal could get an A bashing a rock on his own head).

Now to where I am going with this.....WHAT THE FUCK ARE THE PARENTS DOING ASIDE FROM FUCKING....

not a DAMN thing....


so, If I had ever failed a single class as a kid in school, i would not see the light of day for a month, on top of getting my ass beaten, and after that I ended up going to college and getting a degree and by all accounts am successful.

why the fuck cant these people give their children some GODDAMN STRUCTURE, RESTRICTIONS, AND ORDER.

p.s. Those of you who have/are going to have children, just know that nothing here is aimed at you guys (as sometimes the meanings on the boards gets misconstrued , y'all are great (though I barely know you)

Yup. I sub here to make extra money since Georgia's economy is TERRIBLE and the only jobs here are manufacturing or labor jobs.

Kids these days are HORRIBLE. I normally stick to 4-5th graders because they are the easiest, but occasionally I sub older and occasionally younger. These are some of the things I have come across:

1st grade girl had VERY obvious mold growing on her sandwich her mom made her.

This next one was out of Lubbock: I subbed at some schools over off of MLK. If you have ever been over there, you know it is an absolute hood over there. The elementary school out there is at least 90% black. The teacher I subbed with told me that over 85% of the children at the school had at least one parent incarcerated. A kindergarten boy came up to me one day and said crying "I'm really sad today. The cops came to my house last night, bust down my door, and took my daddy away." I will never forget that little boy. He was an absolute sweetheart.

Savannah high school: "Miss I don't have to do today's review assignment because I hafta go to court tomorrow." Then he proceeds to tell his friends what he did.. I can't remember what it was, but it was something like help his cousin rob a store or something.

Seriously, it is rough being in schools. I have been cursed at, threatened, etc. Students were making out by my door and I told them to move away from my door. The girl told me to "SHUT THE FUCK UP, GOD." To that I just said, "yeah yeah, whatever, get moving." You can't tell these students ANYTHING or they escalate the situation, especially if you are a sub and they don't know you. I had another junior high girl swing tennis racket at me and tell me she was going to beat me up.

I met a lady at a store I was at who told me that she subbed one time. She was assigned to a high school and got into a physical brawl with a girl who hit her. She told me she never subbed again. I hear that all too often. I just tell people, you can't fight back when they cuss you out. Just let it go. If you argue back, you are setting a situation up. I am small. I can't take on 20 high schoolers in a classroom by myself. I just let it go.

And yes, it is very cool to fail EVERYTHING. Parents suck these days.
