Honestly, I'd be all for it being a forbidden word in my classroom, too. Too much of my class time is wasted when students try to talk politics. I wouldn't mind if I were teaching a content that was effected by politics, but math is the universal truth and is not concerned with who's running what countries.

Students shouldn't be interrupting class at all, and should only ask questions relevant to the discussion(s) at hand (mathematics related in your case, correct?).

But to outright ban the NAME of the President-elect from being spoken, even in passing, is absolutely despicable regardless of political affiliation.

"Shut up about Obama and do your spelling test" doesn't seem despicable to me.
