When I was driving to work this morning I noticed a bunch of political signs along the side of the road. The usual McCain and local shit, but a few of em bothered me. There were a few signs for Constables and Sheriffs proclaiming their political affiliation.

Partisan politics has no place in officers upholding the law IMO. I don't want constables arresting people or giving them harsher/more lenient punishments based on their political beliefs. Their job should be to uphold the law without bias

Does this bother anyone else?

you know what's funny to me? I'm not necessarily an Obama supporter and still haven't decided who i am voting for, but aren't the bailouts incredibly socialist? and let's not to mention all the anti-terror laws "for our own good."

not necessarily. In my opinion, the bailouts are an attempt to save the financial sector in order to keep our somewhat free market. It only deals with finances. Socialism deals with THE PEOPLE... how to make the people equal. Obama wants to spread the wealth. Rescuing (or attempting to) a few banks isn't going to spread the wealth. It's going to hopefully protect people's investments. Socialism has nothing to do with laws that invade privacy either. It's only about equality for the people. Theoretically, that's why neither thing that you said is socialist. In my opinion, socialism isn't necessarily "big government," but almost always is because the programs cost billions upon billions of dollars. Non-socialist governments can spend just as much if not more money building new roads, better schools, etc for the people. I think our current idea of what socialism is is really screwed up. I will say, though, Obama is very socialist by the very most literal meaning of the term.

Well then, quit bandwagon-ing your definition of Socialism to fit whatever McCain and Palin espouse.
The old Stars-and-Stripes won't be dipped in red paint when Obama is elected.

Yes, the definitions of economic systems are in some ways fluid and can adapt over time. But what McCain, Palin, yourself, and others are claiming seems more akin to Communism.
Yeah yeah...."Socialism is a stage to Communism"...heard that Marxist quote/tripe many times before. Doesn't seem to be the case in a majority of examples, nor would any such drastic changes EVER take hold/be accepted here in the U.S.

damn, calm down, Zach. Don't get all PO'd because now that you're a Obama follower, you yourself must also be labeled a socialist.
