so... in your mind, Iraq (where a dictator defied U.N. weapons sanctions for several years) is akin to Georgia & Russia feuding?
Now I'm not siding opposite of you. I don't think we have any business intervening other than to try to diffuse the situation (which is exactly what we're doing). I think Russia is justified in defending their territory and perhaps making a few inroads into Georgia in order to protect their country and limit Georgia's ability to wage war. I just think the whole "we don't have any say because of Iraq blah blah blah" is stupid. They're two completely different situations. Sitting down and shutting up would be the worst thing we could possibly do. If anything we need to continue to try to negotiate peace between them, because in this case, we know for sure that one side has nuclear weapons. |

I think the wrong thing to do is to chastise Russia for doing exactly what we did with Iraq. Invading a sovereign nation and dethroning its leadership. We can't sit on our high horse and be hypocrites about it. Russia knows this and is flexing its muscles. They are playing a game but how is that any different than the old Russia from WW2. They've always been trying to prove to the world they're worth something and they'll kill people to get there. I personally feel they are a barbarous culture just like the Chinese and the Middle East. Completely devoid of human emotion and understanding. To them, life is a war game. -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

We can't sit on our high horse and be hypocrites about it. How is what Russia is doing "exactly what we did with Iraq"??? Russia hasn't "dethroned" Georgia's leaders. Georgia attacked S. Ossetia, then Russia came to their defense, and invaded Georgia to an extent (which is very typical, you make inroads into your invader's territory to reduce their ability to wage war on you). Saddam Hussein defied UN weapons sanctions for five years, so we went in and took him down since nobody else would. How in the hell do you guys see these two conflicts as exactly the same thing?!??! Russia knows this and is flexing its muscles. They are playing a game but how is that any different than the old Russia from WW2. The old Russia from WW2?!?? Russia was on our side during WW2 bud.... Though I assume you're talking about the cold war. They've always been trying to prove to the world they're worth something and they'll kill people to get there. I personally feel they are a barbarous culture just like the Chinese and the Middle East. Completely devoid of human emotion and understanding. To them, life is a war game. Agreed 100% |
