What are the best ways to maximize p2p security/privacy these days?
Also, I recently got Cox cable and it would appear that using the router I normally use with my connections appears to break the internet. I've read a bit about this issue, and am not certain what to do. Albeit, this is relatively little information to diagnose the problem, I find myself a bit frustrated that this would happen. Router is a Linksys router with fully updated firmware. -------------------- ![]() |

Go ahead and ditch Cox. Cable internet connections have static IP addresses, unless you want to pay extra for up to 6(well, 6 with Comcast here in CO, but I'm sure there's some sort of low limit.) I had a problem with Cox a few years back, they said that Paramount e-mailed them that I was sharing some movie and if it happened two more times that they would permanently disconnect my service.

Cable internet connections don't have static IP addresses by default. If you want a static IP you can pay extra to get it, but your standard connection is not static. It may appear that way because you'll keep the same IP for a while, but it's not. You got caught and they just went through their database and matched the IP to your account at the time. |
