yeah, I mean, if you think about it, the money you save can just go towards gas and you pretty much still even out, if not come out on top.

Last I heard, GM is giving out $7000 rebates on their trucks. Assuming a realistic mpg for the prius (46 mpg by consumer testimony [not the EPA lies]) and $4 a gallon for gas, that $7000 translates into 80,000 miles worth of gas for the prius, and only 30,000 miles worth of gas for a 17 mpg truck (again, real consumer testimony for both a 2008 Tundra, and 2008 Chevy, not the EPA stated 22 mpg bullshit]).

Effectively, a truck costs $17,500 per 100,000 miles more than a prius. For a reasonable mpg comparison, say a vehicle with 30 mpg, that still translates into a little more than $10,000 per 100,000 miles more. Even with the $7000 rebate, a truck is still pretty damn expensive to operate.

But despite that, some people really need trucks.

Yeah, Alot of people have no idea how much trucks cost when compared to small cars. Maintenence is a lot more, fuel, tires, everything.

I put together a spreadsheet nearly 10 years ago that tracked every single cost I could think of your vehicle might incur, figured in depreciation, then broke it down for you in cost per mile ....

I quit keeping records because it made me sick how much my truck was costing me due to it breaking down all the time... but, it was an eye opener.

With that said however, I fully understand how much more I'm paying for it, and I'm willing to pay that price because I need it to have fun

If I ever move to Denver or something I am DEFINATLEY buying a small car to commute with.
