As you would have them do unto you
I don't remember if that's the exact quote. Doesn't really matter. The point is treat others as you yourself would want to be treated. I go to a certain bar a lot. While I don't really consider many of the people up there anything other than bar acquaintances, I am close friends with a few of them, including a girl named Jamie who used to work there. Whether or not she's my friend is irrelevant. I would have taken the same course of action regardless of whether it was my best friend or someone I hardly knew. While I don't really get directly involved in the drama and gossip of Fowler's, I do overhear things. For the past month, ever since this REALLY hot blonde girl started working there, I've overheard Jamie's fiance of six years hit on her. And I'm not talking about small talk or telling her she's beautiful, I'm talking about things like "I'd dump Jamie right now for a chance to be with you," "If we hang out Saturday night when Jamie is out of town you can sleep in my bed and she'll never know," etc. Doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize he'd cheat on Jamie the first second he got the chance. Jamie works at another bar I frequent. I was up there when she was bartending and I told her what her boyfriend said. This was, of course, after she told me he stormed out of the house in a drunken stupor, took the engagement ring, and said it was over, the night before. I didn't really want to pile more shit on, and it probably wasn't the best time to tell her, but I told her anyway. In my opinion, anyone who's being cheated on has a right to know. Especially a girl who's engaged to a guy she's been dating for six years; She has a fucking right to know if her fiance would drop everything for the chance to nail some random hot 19 year old blonde slut. Initially, I told her don't tell him she heard it from me. Not that I care really, I just didn't want to deal with the after effects and more drama. Then I said fuck it and told Jamie she could say she heard it from me and I don't give a shit. Disregard whether or not it's "my business" to tell her. If you're dumb enough to talk loudly in a bar to some waitress about how badly you want to screw her, and you come up to me and drunkenly say "I'd cheat on Jamie in a second with her," it becomes my business. I didn't tell Jamie because I had some kind of ulterior motives of hooking up with her or anger because I liked Amanda (waitress), although a bunch of dumbasses thought just that. I told her because she had a right to know. If I was in the same situation, I'd want someone to tell me. Simple as that. In fact, if certain people from years past had told me I was being cheated on in various relationships, I probably wouldn't be as goddamn cynical as I am now. I guess she told him it came from me, because I walked in to Fowler's last night and he was sitting at the bar getting trashed and talking shit about me to anyone who'd listen. He started yelling "Hey, there's dumbfuck Will" and "You better leave right now cause I'm gonna kick your ass." I was a bit concerned, seeing as there was one of me and about 6 of his friends." I don't fight well unless I have a reason to fight. Some drunkard mad at me because he fucked up isn't really good motivation. I nearly walked out, but I didn't. God knows what kind of shit he was talking about me, but I assumed it was bad since I walked in and the entire bar started staring at me and whispering. I walked right up to him and said "Are you mad at me, or yourself?" I don't think he caught on to my line of thought. He got up, took a step towards trying to fight before one of the owners got in the middle and asked what the problem is. I figured I could probably safely get a few words in without getting killed. I forgot what he said/slurred, but it was something along the lines of "Will's a stupid pussy and he's making up rumors and telling my girlfriend I'm cheating on her because he likes Amanda." This pissed me the fuck off, mainly because it was entirely untrue. That's when I went off on his ass in front of all the waitresses and everyone else. I said something to the effect of this: "I repeated verbatim every fucking thing you've said to Amanda, to your girlfriend. I didn't do it because I like Jamie or Amanda, because I don't like either of them. I did it because she deserves to know she's about to be cheated on by her degenerate coke head piece of shit fiance. I would have told the same thing to my best friend or a total stranger, and I would have expected someone to tell me if I was in her shoes. I don't give a shit whether you think it wasn't my business to tell her or I broke some kind of stupid "guy code." Don't shoot the messenger, shoot yourself...because you're to blame, not me. How about this novel idea: instead of being mad at me because you got caught, take some personal responsibility for your situation. You're engaged and you're trying to throw it all away for some 19 year old girl you want to drunkenly fuck because she's hot. Nevermind the fact that you were fucking stupid enough to let the entire bar know by bragging about it, nevermind the fact that if you have an IQ higher than 6 you'd know that everyone here knows Jamie and someone would probably tell her eventually, nevermind that a guy you know ratted on you, nevermind any of that shit. Wait until you're not fucked up and you have a clear head, if that's even possible, and think about what you did. You made a conscious choice to try to cheat on your fiancee of six years. I don't care if you were drunk or doped up at the time; that isn't a fucking excuse. You fucked up, and instead of being a man and taking responsibility for your indiscretions, you're being a chickenshit and placing blame and anger on everyone else. Man the fuck up and realize you were trying to cheat on your girlfriend and she found out about it. How she found out is irrelevant. Who told her is irrelevant. The only thing that's relevant is you cheated, and cheating isn't tolerable in any situation. I'll ask again, are you mad at me, or yourself?" It shut him the fuck up and probably humiliated the hell out of him. No one said a word until I walked out the door. God knows what some of those people think about me now, since half of em I don't even know. I don't care. There is no moral of the story other than treat others the way you'd want to be treated. I'm sure the topic of "Should I tell so-and-so if they're boyfriend is cheating on them?" has been brought up here before. Always tell them, no matter what. They have a right to know. Don't feel bad because you told them. It isn't your fault someone else fucked up -------------------- ![]() ![]() |
