QUOTE LUBBOCK — Texas Tech University's Board of Regents today bucked a statewide trend and voted to freeze tuition for next school year. Student and parking fees, as well as room and board charges, also will not go up for 2008-2009. pretty good press for tech coming from the AP |

We had more money coming in before.
We have a good basketball team and basketball is actually what brings in more money than any other athletic program in any school. We have a great baseball team but their facilities aren't what they ought to be. We have members of our track team going to the Olympics. This stuff just doesn't make the news because of our football division status, which sucks. We had a poor program this year because we were in a transition with a new coach, Coach Bailiff is now at Rice where he took the rest of our coaching staff. Coach Wright had quite a few players leave. Chase Wasson, former QB turned WR after Bradley George came, left for Oklahoma. Bradley played for the Reds' organization before coming to Texas State to play football. Justin Boren, who transferred from SMU, got injured in our game against Kentucky 2 seasons ago, but he was an amazing RG. We had a kid come in that just wasn't up to par as much as Justin is. We had talent, but it all fizzled after Bailiff left. |

basketball is actually what brings in more money than any other athletic program in any school. You've got some pretty good crack there don't ya... basketball brings in nowhere near as much as football. Even in division II. Go here: http://www.ncaa.org/library/research/i_ii_..._d2_rev_exp.pdf Sport: Revenues, Expenses Div I (page 33) Men's programs: Football: $12.9M, $7.1M Basketball: $4.3M, $2.2M Other Sports: $1.0M, $2.6M Unrelated: $400k, $610k Women's programs (pretty much laughable) Basketball: $510k, $1.3M Other Sports: $985k, $3.8M Unrelated: $330k, $345k Div II (page 53) Men's programs: Football: $1.1M, $1.4M Basketball: $750k, $790k Other Sports: $720k, $1.1M Unrelated: $100k, $40k Women's programs (pretty much laughable) Basketball: $340k, $590M Other Sports: $860k, $1.6M Unrelated: $110k, $40k The data is for 2003, but goes back to 1989 and if you look at the trend it shows football taking a larger share every year. |
