Yeah I can't stand the "applications" crap. I will still use facebook because I like the layout, and the fact that people can't put seizure inducing colors and patterns as their backgrounds. I just wish you could turn off all applications and application notifications.
as far as chat on websites, I find myself using the gmail one a fair amount. I'll get on to check my email, and one of my buddies (who can't use aim at work) will be on, and will chat for a min. |

My point was that chat inside of Gmail makes sense, as it was originally a standalone application and Gmail is a communication tool. So if you're going to send someone an e-mail and you see them online, you just send them a message on the chat tool. It makes sense. In that regard I can see the chat tool in Facebook being useful, instead of sending someone a message, you send them a chat message.
