Brazil possibly discovers huge oil reserve Options

SAO PAULO, Brazil — A deep-water exploration area off Brazil's coast could contain as much as 33 billion barrels of oil, the head of Brazil's National Petroleum Agency said today. That would make it the world's third-largest known oil reserve.

Haroldo Lima cautioned that his information on the field off the coast of Rio de Janeiro is unofficial and needs to be confirmed.

Geez... I sure wish we were allowed to drill in Alaska and find us a huge reserve. Oh well at least we're saving the bunny rabbits and moose population

philosophy is your other degree if i remember...and unless you plan on pursuing philosophy at the grad level, in the job market, all it does is serve as a piece of paper. This coming from someone who has worked in the real world for a while. The starting salary for someone with a psych degree is around 22k a year. both are degrees that require grade work to become substantive. Yes, they will get you a job where a bachelor's is required. yes they further improved your status as an educated person. Yes, they (the degrees) improved your writing skills, reasoning skills, etc. The possibility that you will work in a field using your degree is slim to none. Every psych major I know is either doing grad work or is working as a secretery or some other job completely unrelated to the field. It's just the nature of the business.

And I was joking when I said useless. Honestly, I am one of the best writers in the journalism program here at Texas State, and I accredite that to skills I learned at Tech. My journalism degree will get me in the door at places... newspapers, etc. Philosophy did nothing. Most people don't even know what that is. I am glad I have that degree though. I really did learn a lot.

Ok, first and foremost, ExxonMobil, Connoco, Chevron, are ****HUGE**** companies.

They are not mom-and pop oil companies.

The operations they have across the world, especially off-shore, are quite literally the terrestial version of the space program. They do not have the luxury of being government-funded. They have to develop this technology on their own.

The oil and gas industry is far and away the most competitive and progressive industry in the world. It has to be, since it's the industry ALL OTHER INDUSTRIES ARE BASED ON.

It has been proven time and time and time again by well-respected economists that they are NOT doing anything out of line. When you see these stupid ass senate hearings, it's a fucking political stunt. Pure and simple.

Also, for those of you clamoring on about how they just need to lower the price of gas, THEY ARE NOT THE ONES WHO SET THE PRICES.

Crude oil prices are based off the US dollar by global entities, not the fucking US oil companies. They're playing in the same field as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, etc, who all effectivley have state-run oil companies.

Ever wonder why you don''t hear about the huge profits they make? Because their governments don't require them to have any kind of financial accountability because they own them.

With that said, the US oil companies can't simply just say "oh well america feels bad so we'll just fuck ourselves over in the global market place so a bunch of illiterate dipshits in the US can feel good and Barack Obama can get elected president!"

If you're wondering why the CEO's of those companies make so much it has a lot more to do with the fact that the directions they take their companies is successful, not counterproductive.

Personally I am absolutley amazed the big 5, especially Exxon, make as much money as they do considering how much more complete bullshit they have to put up with foreign operators don't.

I think it's seriously a tribute to good old-fasioned American work-ethic and enginuity, not the bullshit corrupt ceo crap all the fucking socialsts want you to believe.

But then again I don't have a psychology degree so I guess I don't understand technical things like this.
