This is so very very true. People bitch about immigration, but hire illegal Mexicans to clean their house. The best way to get rid of them... don't hire them.

It's all to show illegal immigrants that they aren't welcome. And yet, most of the time, lawmakers never stop to think about the fact that they wouldn't even have illegal immigrants in their state in the first place if, somewhere along the line, someone in that state hadn't already welcomed them with a job -- a job that, in many cases, other state residents didn't want to do at any price.

Great article. I didn't read the whole thing yet, but so far wow. I don't agree with everything, but he hits the nail on the head with the above quote

You don't have to provide the money to set up these ESL programs, but they will make learn English easier and more likely. I'm not saying you can't bitch about people not learning English, you have to acknowledge if there aren't programs teaching it, then it is not so easy.

Now a general rant on education. See, the thing with education is that very often people, students, are blamed for not learning something. Very rarely are teachers actually blamed (I should say punished) for not teaching something. Most people recognize the fact that people learn better when they are taught something. This is why we go to school and are not left to our device to learn stuff. If people are not being taught or taught well, then that makes learning difficult and it lowers the desire to learn as well. This is especially true for the less educated.

Immigrants from other countries like China don't seem to have this problem as bad as Mexicans. They just STFU and learn english, as they should.

You're looking at different social economic brackets here. Most modern day immigrants from China are either highly educated, or here to receive higher education. You can not function in the colleges of this country without knowing English. Immigrants form Mexico are typically not in this bracket (and yes there are some who come here for higher education, etc, they too learn English).

That's very stereotypical of you to say. So the nice old chinese immigrant lady who brings me my route 44 dr pepper at sonic is some wealthy person with a higher education? I don't buy your economic excuse. You don't have to be rich or well educated to learn a language. How many poor ass uneducated people out there have you seen that know both English and Spanish? TONS.
