he's nowhere near 5'9". I stood next to him several times and he's definitely not even 5'8"

Well yeah but I know how tall friends/family etc are. My girlfriend at the time was 5'7 and he was barely taller than her. It's all good though I mean every sport does that (exaggerates height).
