i got up to take a shower, and one of my fucking cats decided to lay on the keyboard of my laptop, and they erased my entire fucking buddy list for my AIM messenger. over 200 people.... GONE. fucking cats....

If you weren't using the official AIM client, you should be able to recover most of your buddy list by logging into it, then logging back into your secondary client.

well, since everyone moved, there really was only a select few people that i actually talked to. but, i had the buddy names of dead friends, and old history, and other such things in there that are never used anymore, but i kept for the history value. more than anything else it's just an inconvieniance. those people who i talk to will message me back again. but it's the ones that are old i'm losing.
